Good Morning #5

“Good Morning #5” in progress

Good Morning #5,” oil on canvas, 60″ x 60″

I am working on a new painting based on a sketch I did in oil on paper in January. Many times someone will ask me how long it takes to make a painting… There is no real answer; for example, I would have to say I started this painting in January – now is the end of June and I am just now getting the idea to canvas… It took much consideration to decide Continue reading

Free 2 Day Workshop at the Gallery, July 14-15

I am planning on teaching a 2 day workshop here in the gallery on July 14th and 15th. I will set up a still life including a model. The first day we will work from sketches and studies; the second day we will make a painting. I would recommend watercolor but any medium is ok with me. The reason I say watercolor is, after the two days of painting, the watercolors and sketches you make will help you make a more detailed painting on your own if you so desire. There will be no photography, I feel the photos have a tendency to make us lazy with our drawing skills while the paintings made from life and sketches have a wonderful feel that cannot be achieved with the misinformation the camera gives us…
There will be no charge for the class. It will start at 12 and go to 3 or 4 pm on each day. You should bring whatever you need so keep it simple… We will be working in the main room of the gallery that will be open to the public. If you sell your painting while taking the workshop, it will be an extra bonus to you. The class will be limited to 5 and I will take any skill level, so please let me know if you have an interest as soon as possible! Contact me at the gallery of email me (info@bradsmithgallery.com), I look forward to hearing from you.

Welcome to my new blog!

Welcome to my blog! It’s finally up and I’m happy you are here for news and updates from my gallery. Come back often!

I have a lot of exciting new work in progress. A mixture of figures, flowers and abstracts…

I have some new sketches as well and working on some ideas from Manila dream series as well. Last summer when I went to finalize papers for my wife Kelsie, my stay in Manila inspired several unusual dreams… I made sketches and have plans for painting them soon.

I will be having a show of my new florals in August during Indian market. Kelsie is painting some still lifes as well and I hope to have them in the show as well! The flowers on Canyon Road are bloooming and inspiration is everywhere… Please come and see the gallery and enjoy the wonderful art on Canyon Road!
