John Farnsworth

“I was born in Williams, Arizona and grew up in Northern Arizona, in the shadow of the Navajo and Hopi Reservations. At the age of nine, I visited Taos, my mother’s birthplace. In the galleries of Taos, I realized that I would be an artist,” said Farnsworth.
John Farnsworth is a mature artist and a painter’s painter. Self-taught, he works from life, sketches, photographs, and video. His works result from the unusual combination of a contemporary eye and a traditional hand. He paints animals, still-lifes, people and landscapes with the same probing eye and deft touch. From travel landscapes to still lifes, from animal portraits to Kachinas, he paints his unique response to whatever catches his eye. John’s diverse adventures and life experiences are reflected in his artwork…from the deep influence of Hopi and Navajo culture on him, to living in Arizona, Mexico and New Mexico, to his travels around the world.
He has painted professionally for over forty years and his works range from small pencil drawings to the twenty-by-thirty foot mural “Stage” at Sky Harbor International Airport in Phoenix, Arizona, originally painted for the Wells Fargo Bank in Los Angeles, California.
